2013 – 2015
A media plastic made of pure information — location-based net art, visible only on site. Three installations, three cities.
the idea
A local-non is a location-based net art exhibition and a site-specific installation — the realisation of a media plastic: a network-based permanent installation in public space. A sculpture made of pure information, its dimensions in space defined by bits, bytes, longitude and latitude, and the possibility of getting access to it. Except the medium we call reality, no physical layer is involved.
Selected artists with a close affinity to the net were invited to create web-based works, each on its own page, reachable through a single URL. A simple location check keeps the site available only at one specific position — request it from anywhere else and the works stay invisible, the visitor gets an "access denied". The show is therefore accessed mostly by smartphones, by people on site. To date, three local nons have been installed; they still work at their respective locations.
local.#non is a concept by the net artist Florian Kuhlmann.
